Woman Flees In Stolen Truck, Crashes, Kills 1

A 28-year-old woman allegedly stole a Ford pickup from a convenience store in San Bernardino on Jan. 22 at about 3:45 p.m. Tucked away in a child safety seat was a 2-year-old boy. The woman reportedly dropped the child off on the side of the road. He was unharmed.

Then the woman sped away on the 210 freeway, heading the wrong way in the eastbound lanes. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was getting ready to pursue the woman when she crashed into four vehicles on the 210.

The crash killed a 69-year-old man from Fontana and injured two others. The woman was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and is in serious condition.

The woman is not facing any charges from the accident as of yet. However, a CHP public information officer said that the accident scene is being treated “as a crime scene as of right now because of the nature of her traveling the wrong way.”

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Office are familiar with the woman and said that she is a local transient. She was arrested twice in January, once on a warrant and once for being under the influence of a controlled subject.
