Wrong-Way Driver Strikes Motorcycle, Man Survives

While there is certainly nothing like riding on a motorcycle, the danger from other drivers must not be overlooked. In many cases, motorists simply do not see the motorcycle until it is too late to avoid a collision.

That wasn’t quite the case in a recent crash involving a motorcycle in Orange County, which is about a half hour from Pomona. According to police, the motorcyclist is “lucky to be alive” after he was struck by a vehicle headed the wrong way on the 91 freeway.

The accident occurred about 2:45 a.m. on a recent Monday. After striking the motorcyclist, the car crashed into a concrete barrier. The motorcyclist suffered what were described as moderate injuries. However, the motorcycle was totaled.

As for the driver of the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) believes that alcohol may have played a role in the accident.

Wrong-way accidents often include fatalities or serious injuries. These types of accidents frequently are caused by drunk drivers who simply do not notice the signage telling the drivers they’re going the wrong way. Since these often occur on interstates and freeways, high speeds are often involved, too.
