Three Signs Of Drunk Driving In The Summer

Three Signs Of Drunk Driving In The Summer
Christian J. Amendt

With the dog days of summer upon us, you are probably spending more time outside with family and friends. While you prepare to spend time at the beach or in the Hollywood Hills, be careful as you drive home in Los Angeles traffic on long summer nights. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration reports that summer is the deadliest time of the year for drivers, with many accidents the result of drunk drivers.

If you are driving, keep an eye out for drunk drivers. Follow these tips on how to spot intoxicated motorists.

1. Swerving

One telltale sign of a drunk driver is the vehicle veering through lanes. Intoxication impairs judgment and focus, making it difficult for drivers to drive straight. Drunk drivers may also overcorrect, causing them to swerve more than necessary and easily cause a collision.

2. Driving slowly

You might assume drunk drivers would be aggressive and reckless, but this is often not the case. Intoxicated people sometimes drive well under the speed limit in an attempt to be cautious and avoid getting caught. If you see someone driving more than 10 miles per hour under the speed limit, this might be an indication of drunkenness.

3. Tailgating

Sometimes tailgating is simply an annoying occurrence. While it is dangerous for anyone to follow behind you closely, it is especially risky with an impaired driver involved. A drunk driver might follow you closely in an attempt to drive straight and imitate your movements.

Drunk drivers are a danger to everyone on the road. As you drive home, be sure to keep an eye out for these signs. Make sure to keep your distance from these dangerous drivers to avoid getting into an accident. If you, unfortunately, get into a collision this summer, talk to a personal injury lawyer to see if you have a case.
