Truck Causes Motor Vehicle Accident, Drags Sedan For Miles
Christian J. Amendt

If you are a California resident, you may have already seen the alarming video footage of a commercial vehicle dragging a personal car down the highway after a truck accident. In one of the most publicized motor vehicle accidents of the year, a truck driver was seen dragging a sedan up Cajon Pass. The incident was caught on video by concerned drivers, but the truck operator apparently did not realize that he had struck another car.

Video shows the Nissan sedan being dragged by the large commercial truck. The Nissan’s front end is caught by the left-rear side of the tractor-trailer rig. Drivers are seen attempting to get the truck driver to stop, but he apparently does not understand that he has caused a vehicle accident and continues to drive.

An investigation showed that the at-fault driver is accused of hitting the sedan during a lane change in an attempt to pass a slower-moving truck. The truck driver apparently did not realize that he had struck the smaller car, and he continued hauling his 50,000 pounds of carrots up the pass, oblivious to the accident. The at-fault driver was apparently not intoxicated or otherwise impaired at the time of the crash, and he was allowed to leave the scene of the accident.

The victim in this case did not suffer major injuries, but he certainly could have. A negligent driver who does not realize that he is dragging another vehicle behind his truck is a menace to our state’s roads. Negligent truck drivers like this man lead to dozens of fatal trucking accidents on California highways every year. These at-fault drivers need to be held accountable for their misdeeds through civil penalties for pain and suffering, medical expenses and other claims.
