When Bystanders Get Caught In A Car Crash
Christian J. Amendt

Sometimes a car crash can involve someone who is completely uninvolved in the incident other than getting hurt. For example, at a recent car show in Los Angeles last month, eight people were injured when a test-drive vehicle got into a crash. Five of the injured were pedestrians and authorities are not sure that any of them were actually hit by the vehicle itself.

The accident happened at the Los Angeles Auto Show late last month. A test-drive vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk causing concrete shards to explode from the walkway. A total of eight people was hurt, and six of them needed to be taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from mild to moderate. The driver of the vehicle and his passenger were among the injured.

The crash happened next to the Los Angeles Convention Center a little before 1:15 p.m. The vehicle involved in the crash was a Fiat 500e. The driver of the vehicle lost control of it and went up onto a sidewalk causing damage to the hood and a cracked windshield. Police suspect that the driver might not have had a license to operate the vehicle.

According to literature about the car show where the accident occurred, test drivers of vehicles there will need to show their valid drivers’ licenses, and could be asked to blow into a breathalyzer blood alcohol testing device before they can test drive a vehicle.

Sometimes things can go wrong in traffic situations and innocent bystanders get caught up and seriously injured in the crash. As pedestrians, these individuals have very little to no protection from a crash, so their injuries are often severe. If you or a loved one were hurt in a motor vehicle collision as a pedestrian who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you may want to discuss the merits of bringing a lawsuit forward in court.
